Kingfishers Fish & Chips
If you’re ever in Poole and craving a proper British classic done right, Kingfishers Fish & Chips is where the locals point you. Tucked away in the Neighbourhood Centre at 15 Culliford Crescent, this humble gem doesn’t just serve food-it delivers comfort, tradition, and a generous side of nostalgia.
What immediately stands out about Kingfishers Fish & Chips is its unwavering focus on freshness. The fish is always flaky and tender, wrapped in a golden batter that somehow manages to be both light and satisfyingly crisp. Whether you go for the classic cod or prefer haddock, every bite has that freshly-fried, straight-from-the-fryer goodness that only a proper chippy can pull off. The chips are thick-cut, fluffy on the inside, with that perfect outer crunch that soaks up vinegar and salt like a dream. If you’re the type who appreciates the details, the chips here strike a lovely balance-not too greasy, not too dry, and always piping hot.
Beyond the obvious star of the show, Kingfishers isn’t afraid to mix things up. The Hot Dog on the menu might not be traditional British fare, but it’s surprisingly popular. It’s plump, juicy, and served with just the right amount of toppings-ideal for those looking for a quicker bite or a kid-friendly option. And then there’s dessert. Yes, a fish and chips spot serving ice cream might raise a few eyebrows, but trust me-it’s a fun, sweet ending after a savoury feast. The selection isn’t overly fancy, but it’s enough to satisfy that sudden sweet tooth.
What makes Kingfishers a local favourite isn’t just the food. It’s the ease and accessibility. The restaurant offers both takeaway and dine-in options, making it great whether you're grabbing a quick meal on the go or settling in with friends for a casual dinner. It’s also a convenient spot for families or solo diners who want a no-fuss meal with guaranteed satisfaction. The staff are known for being fast, friendly, and genuinely helpful, which goes a long way in creating that warm, down-to-earth atmosphere you want from your neighbourhood chippy.
When it comes to affordability, Kingfishers strikes a good deal. Portions are generous for the price, and the quality of ingredients speaks for itself. For anyone used to bland, soggy takeaway, this place is a refreshing reminder that fast food can still be well made. And while the menu is relatively streamlined, that’s not a bad thing-it means they focus on doing a few things extremely well rather than stretching themselves thin with unnecessary frills.
If you’re the kind of person who measures a chippy by its mushy peas or curry sauce, those are available too-basic but satisfying. The place caters to traditional tastes but also makes room for the occasional wildcard item, keeping things interesting. It’s this blend of classic and casual innovation that gives Kingfishers its edge over other local options.
Another small but appreciated touch? The clean and tidy interior. Even for a takeaway joint, it’s clear the team here takes pride in keeping things spotless and welcoming. It’s not a flashy venue, but it doesn’t need to be. Everything about the space-from the straightforward signage to the warm fryers behind the counter-tells you exactly what you’re in for: great food, no nonsense.
In a town with its fair share of eateries, Kingfishers Fish & Chips quietly holds its ground with consistent quality, friendly vibes, and food that’s just downright satisfying. Whether you're passing through or a Poole local, it’s one of those places that earns your loyalty one crispy chip at a time.

"We regularly order the largest fish and chips from Kingfisher, and the quality is always outstanding! No matter the occasion, the food is consistently delicious and perfectly cooked. The fish is fresh, flaky, and the chips are crispy every time. It’s our go-to spot for takeaway, and we’re never disappointed with the service or the portions.
